Ryan Condal Mulai Garap House of the Dragon Musim Keempat

Showrunner sekaligus kreator pendamping serial House of the Dragon, Ryan Condal, mengonfirmasi bahwa proses penulisan untuk musim keempat dan terakhir dari seri prekuel Game of Thrones tersebut telah resmi dimulai.

Kepastian tersebut disampaikan menjelang penayangan perdana Musim 3 pada Minggu, 21 Juni 2026, di tengah respons beragam dari para penggemar terkait akhir cerita musim sebelumnya yang dinilai menggantung.

Kekecewaan penonton pada akhir Musim 2 dipicu oleh keputusan tim produksi untuk memotong jumlah episode dari sepuluh menjadi delapan, sehingga pertempuran laut Battle of the Gullet harus digeser ke pembuka Musim 3.

Condal menjelaskan bahwa keputusan penyesuaian tersebut diambil demi menyeimbangkan keseluruhan alur cerita drama keluarga Westeros ini hingga akhir musim nanti.

"One of the things that came into play in season two is: What is the final destination of the series and where are we going? It was a combination of factors that led us to rebalance the season knowing now where we’re going," ujar Ryan Condal, Showrunner House of the Dragon.

Penggarapan visual efek yang rumit untuk menampilkan naga serta persiapan kostum dan properti perang membutuhkan alokasi sumber daya serta waktu produksi yang sangat besar.

"We wanted to rebalance the story in such a way that we had three great seasons of television [after season one] to round out and tell this story. When you’re trying to mount the show, which requires a tremendous amount of resources, construction, armor, costumes, visual effects … we are trying to give The Gullet — which is arguably the second most anticipated action event of Fire & Blood — trying to give it the time and the space that it deserves," kata Ryan Condal.

Meskipun terdapat ancaman boikot dari sebagian penonton di media sosial seperti Reddit dan X akibat jeda tayang selama dua tahun, penayangan perdana Musim 3 tetap memicu antusiasme tinggi setelah acara pemutaran perdana terbatas dilakukan pekan ini.

Condal yang saat ini menetap di London mengaku memilih untuk fokus pada proses kreatif penulisan skenario dibandingkan mendengarkan tekanan dan ekspektasi besar dari luar.

"It’s funny," kata Ryan Condal. "You would think I’m inside of it but I actually think living in London does keep me outside of it a bit. Day to day, I don’t run into my agents or run into my other writer friends in the business because I’m out here on this island” – United Kingdom – “making the show. So, it’s exciting but in a nice way."

Ia juga menambahkan bahwa suasana dalam cerita Musim 3 ini akan berkembang menjadi jauh lebih kelam dan suram bagi para karakter yang terlibat konflik.

"No, we continued on. We had a plan from the outset and we’re not going to listen to the noise. I realize that this is a four-season show and you have to wait two years in between each chapter." ujar Ryan Condal.

Siklus produksi yang panjang dinilai wajar karena penulisan naskah membutuhkan waktu satu tahun, ditambah proses pembuatan animasi naga selama tujuh hingga delapan bulan.

"But ultimately this is one story we’re telling. I get the frustration. It’s a long downtime between seasons.

It just takes long to prep and shoot the show. This is after scripts are written that take a year, and then it takes seven-eight months to make dragons. So, do the math.

It’s not possible to come out every year. I’m very sorry." kata Ryan Condal.

Sutradara berusia 47 tahun tersebut meyakini kesabaran para penggemar setia kisah adaptasi novel Fire & Blood karya George RR Martin ini akan segera terbayar.

"But you guys decided to be fans of the show called ‘House of the Dragon.’ And I think everybody’s patience and impatience, will be rewarded in a couple of weeks." cetus Ryan Condal.

Nuansa tragedi keluarga yang menyerupai karya Shakespeare akan tetap menjadi landasan utama dari perkembangan plot ke depan.

"This is a Westeros show. It’s a Shakespearean family tragedy. We’ve talked about that a lot in the beginning." tutur Ryan Condal.

Perubahan atmosfer cerita dipastikan akan terasa lebih signifikan seiring meningkatnya ketegangan antara kubu Rhaenyra Targaryen dan Alicent Hightower.

"The mood of the show probably changes a little bit in S3 as things get darker and a bit bleaker." jelas Ryan Condal.

Saat ini, tim produksi terus mematangkan draf naskah babak penutup cerita selagi merampungkan proses pascaproduksi untuk episode-episode Musim 3 yang mulai mengudara.

"I’m most comfortable or happiest I would say, just writing," aku Ryan Condal. "I still love the solitary process of sitting with the screenplay and writing. Alone in my office. With my swords and my eggs, you know, writing."

Langkah percepatan penulisan dilakukan agar mesin produksi tetap berjalan demi menyambut akhir dari kisah perebutan takhta besi ini.

"We’re actively writing, we’re as far ahead as we’ve ever been at this point in crafting a new season, while we’re still posting the old one," ungkap Ryan Condal. "That just goes to show the machine is up and running. But it’s also the fourth season — The End."

Musim keempat dipastikan menjadi penutup mutlak dari seluruh rangkaian saga House of the Dragon.

"The final act, a story we’ve been waiting to tell for many years." pungkas Ryan Condal.
