Tyler Fletcher Masuk Skuad Piala Dunia Skotlandia Gantikan Billy Gilmour

Gelandang muda Manchester United Tyler Fletcher mendapatkan panggilan mendadak untuk memperkuat tim nasional Skotlandia dalam ajang Piala Dunia setelah pemain Napoli Billy Gilmour terpaksa mundur akibat cedera.

Pemain berusia 19 tahun tersebut berpeluang melakoni debutnya dalam pertandingan fase Grup B melawan Maroko yang dijadwalkan berlangsung pada hari Jumat, 20 Juni 2026. Kehadiran anak mantan kapten Skotlandia Darren Fletcher ini memicu kebanggaan sekaligus ekspektasi besar dari berbagai pihak, termasuk dari pihak akademi Manchester United dan mantan pemain internasional Skotlandia.

Direktur Akademi Manchester United Stephen Torpey mengekspresikan rasa bangganya atas pencapaian sang pemain muda yang dinilai telah mewujudkan impian masa kecilnya lewat pemanggilan ke kompetisi tertinggi sepak bola tersebut.

"Having known the family and having known Tyler for a very long time, I feel super proud on a personal and professional level for him and for us," kata Stephen Torpey, Direktur Akademi Manchester United kepada BBC Radio Manchester.

Pihak akademi menegaskan bahwa pemanggilan ini merupakan buah dari kerja keras kolektif selama bertahun-tahun untuk mendukung perkembangan karier Fletcher di dunia sepak bola profesional.

"We know there have been a lot of people who would have been working for many, many years to support him and hopefully this is just another milestone of a long career that he has," ujar Stephen Torpey, Direktur Akademi Manchester United.

Torpey menambahkan bahwa situasi Fletcher terbilang sangat unik mengingat latar belakang keluarganya, di mana sang ayah adalah mantan pemain bintang dan saudara kembarnya, Jack Fletcher, memilih untuk mewakili timnas muda Inggris.

"Super proud and it does make you realise that the dreams that some of these young players have when they're growing up can sometimes come true. I'm sure that's the case here with Tyler," tutur Stephen Torpey, Direktur Akademi Manchester United.

Pihak klub terus berkomitmen untuk berkolaborasi demi membantu sang gelandang mencapai potensi maksimalnya tanpa memberikan tekanan yang berlebihan pada ritme perkembangannya.

"It's a situation that is pretty unique to him," kata Stephen Torpey, Direktur Akademi Manchester United.

Manajemen akademi memuji ketenangan dan kepercayaan diri yang ditunjukkan Fletcher dalam mengelola situasi unik tersebut sepanjang karier juniornya.

"Your father is an ex-player but also your twin brother is a player," ucap Stephen Torpey, Direktur Akademi Manchester United.

Fletcher dinilai selalu bergerak dengan kecepatannya sendiri di dunianya tanpa perlu dipaksa untuk mempercepat atau memperlambat perkembangannya.

"He's always handled it with calmness and a quiet confidence in his ability and also recognises that he's going at his own pace in his own world and we don't have to increase or slow that pace down at any point," jelas Stephen Torpey, Direktur Akademi Manchester United.

Langkah selanjutnya adalah membangun keyakinan kuat dan terus bekerja sama demi memastikan kesuksesan jangka panjang sang pemain.

"We just have to have that strong belief and work together and collaborate to help him achieve his potential," tegas Stephen Torpey, Direktur Akademi Manchester United.

Dukungan serupa juga mengalir dari mantan bek internasional Skotlandia Alan Hutton yang merasa sangat yakin bahwa Fletcher akan memberikan dampak signifikan bagi taktik pelatih Steve Clarke, berkaca pada performa impresif sang pemain saat tampil sebagai pengganti dalam laga uji coba melawan Curacao dan Bolivia.

"Of course, I was devastated for Billy Gilmour. It's one of those situations in football you never want to find yourself in, where you're on the cusp of something absolutely brilliant, and then it gets taken away from you," kata Alan Hutton, Mantan Pemain Timnas Skotlandia kepada Edinburgh Evening News dalam kerja sama dengan Spreadex Sports.

Hutton melihat momentum ini sebagai kesempatan emas bagi Fletcher untuk membuktikan kemampuannya di panggung internasional setelah sempat berlatih bersama tim senior.

"But with that comes opportunity, and I think the training week before when Tyler was brought into the team, you're thinking it's solely about training with the senior team and giving them a taster of it, but it shows you what you can do, given the chance. If you go and impress, show the manager what you're capable of, you get an opportunity to actually play some minutes," tutur Alan Hutton, Mantan Pemain Timnas Skotlandia.

Fletcher dinilai memiliki ketenangan serta postur tubuh ideal yang menjadi modal utama untuk berkembang menjadi gelandang papan atas di masa depan.

"I thought Tyler was very good, he looked very composed. He's a good size and build. He's got the makings of a real good top midfielder.

So, he's grabbed with opportunity with both hands, and I think that's what you need. He's showing confidence. He believes in himself to be there," puji Alan Hutton, Mantan Pemain Timnas Skotlandia.

Meskipun kemungkinan besar tidak tampil sebagai starter, Fletcher diprediksi mampu bersaing ketat dan mempertahankan posisinya di dalam atmosfer kompetisi Piala Dunia yang kompetitif.

"I feel he will feature at the World Cup, maybe not from the start, but I think he's got the ability to come on and hold his own within that environment. I'm really looking forward to seeing him, and I think he deserves this opportunity," tambah Alan Hutton, Mantan Pemain Timnas Skotlandia.

Hutton memproyeksikan bahwa pertandingan melawan Maroko akan menjadi laga krusial layaknya partai final bagi Skotlandia yang tergabung di Grup B bersama Haiti dan Brasil.

"Yeah, I’d say so on paper. Listen, the game against Haiti is not going to be a walk in the park. But it’s a low-seeded team we’re playing first, so if you can get three points on the board, that just elevates your position," jelas Alan Hutton, Mantan Pemain Timnas Skotlandia saat ditanya mengenai arti penting laga melawan Maroko.

Hasil imbang melawan Maroko dianggap sudah cukup mengamankan posisi Skotlandia sebelum menghadapi tim kuat Brasil di Miami.

"The Morocco game is going to be huge. It's absolutely massive. If you manage to get a draw there and you're sitting on four points, then the Brazil game takes care of itself in a way. You're already looking at the prospect of going through," urai Alan Hutton, Mantan Pemain Timnas Skotlandia.

Hutton merasa optimistis bahwa skuad asuhan Steve Clarke kali ini lebih siap secara mental dan taktis untuk melaju ke babak gugur, sekaligus menghapus kekecewaan akibat kesalahan struktural pada Euro 2024 lalu.

"I'm optimistic (about Scotland’s chances of reaching the knockout stage) but I know how things can work out as well. I tend to sit on the fence a little bit, but a big part of me is saying we can make it out of this group. If they do that, I think it'll be unbelievably good for the nation moving forward," ungkap Alan Hutton, Mantan Pemain Timnas Skotlandia.

Atmosfer positif dan ekspektasi publik Skotlandia saat ini sedang meningkat menyusul catatan impresif dari dua pertandingan pemanasan terakhir sebelum turnamen dimulai.

"You can feel the excitement in the country, especially after those last two warm-up games and everything we’ve seen. It's almost lifted the expectations again, because there were plenty of positives to take from those games. There's a lot of momentum building to take into the tournament, so it’s about expressing yourself, be brave and show the world that you're more than capable of competing against the top nations," kata Alan Hutton, Mantan Pemain Timnas Skotlandia.

Lini pertahanan yang solid serta ancaman nyata dari sektor sayap menjadi modal dasar yang kuat bagi kestabilan tim nasional Skotlandia saat ini.

"So, I feel there's a lot of good energy at this moment within the squad. They look solid defensively and have real threats out wide, so they're working from a real solid base. But they need to believe in themselves and play the exact same way as they have done," sambung Alan Hutton, Mantan Pemain Timnas Skotlandia.

Pengalaman bertanding di turnamen Euro sebelumnya diklaim telah mendewasakan kelompok pemain ini dalam menghadapi tekanan besar di panggung dunia.

"They have that experience under their belt now," imbuh Alan Hutton, Mantan Pemain Timnas Skotlandia.

Partisipasi dalam beberapa kejuaraan Eropa terakhir diakui sangat membantu mendongkrak kepercayaan diri kolektif tim sebelum melangkah ke turnamen yang lebih besar.

"I think the last couple of Euros has definitely helped them improve as a group in terms of building confidence going into big tournaments. There was a lot of hype going into the first game against Germany in Munich, and everybody thought we would get something, but when you play at this level, you can be punished easily, so you have to learn from all your mistakes," papar Alan Hutton, Mantan Pemain Timnas Skotlandia.

Skotlandia kini dituntut memindahkan konsistensi performa dari laga uji coba ke dalam pertandingan resmi fase grup Piala Dunia setelah berhasil melewati proses kualifikasi yang berat.

"I just feel that you've done the hard work to get there. You've played a certain way and it’s worked. We’ve got a really good team at this moment in time, a strong unit that can go and put on good performances. The warm-up games have been excellent, but it's about taking that form into the World Cup now," pungkas Alan Hutton, Mantan Pemain Timnas Skotlandia.
