LeBron James Pertimbangkan Masa Depan Karier Setelah Lakers Tersingkir

Bintang Los Angeles Lakers LeBron James dilaporkan tengah mempertimbangkan kelanjutan kariernya di kompetisi NBA setelah timnya disingkirkan oleh Oklahoma City Thunder pada semifinal Wilayah Barat musim 2026.

Kegagalan tersebut memicu spekulasi mengenai potensi pensiun atau kepindahan James ke klub lain menjelang musim ke-24 sepanjang karier profesionalnya. Spekulasi ini muncul setelah Lakers finis dengan rekor 53-29 di musim reguler dan kalah telak 4-0 dari Thunder di babak playoff.

Terkait komitmennya untuk kembali bermain, Pebasket Los Angeles Lakers LeBron James menjelaskan bahwa kecintaan terhadap proses persiapan fisik dan mental menjadi faktor penentu utama baginya.

"I think for me it’s about the process. If I can commit to still being in love with the process of showing up to the arena 5½ hours before a game to start preparing for a game, giving everything I got, diving for loose balls and doing everything that you know that it takes to go out and play," kata James.

James menambahkan bahwa rutinitas latihan harian yang menuntut disiplin tinggi juga menjadi bagian dari proses yang dievaluasinya menjelang musim panas.

"Showing up to practices, 11 o’clock practice, I’m there at 8 o’clock preparing my body, preparing my mind, preparing to practice, to put the work in. So I think for me, I’ve always been in love with the process … so I think that would be a big factor," ujar James.

Mantan rekan setim Kevin Garnett di Celtics, Paul Pierce, memberikan pandangan bahwa James sebaiknya menyudahi kariernya karena besarnya tekanan dan kritik yang tidak adil bagi pemain seusianya.

"Just like for the simple fact that at the age that he still receives the criticism that he still does," ucap Pierce.

Pierce menilai bahwa para pemain legendaris NBA terdahulu tidak mendapatkan kritik tajam yang sama di akhir masa karier mereka seperti yang dialami James saat ini.

"The greats wasn’t getting this criticism late. Nobody was criticizing Kobe when he wasn’t going to the playoffs in his last year. They was just enjoying his moments. Like the same with Jordan in Washington… For the simple fact the man is 41 and we still critiquing him like he 25 and should be winning championships still," tutur Pierce dalam siniar bersama Kevin Garnett.

Di sisi lain, jurnalis ESPN Brian Windhorst melaporkan situasi negosiasi kontrak antara pihak manajemen klub dan perwakilan James yang berpotensi menemui jalan buntu terkait nilai gaji.

"The Lakers don’t want to lose LeBron James, but they don’t want to pay him $50 million. The rest of the league isn’t going to come bidding at $50 million. … If you want LeBron to take a pay cut, you better bring him a reason to take a pay cut," kata Windhorst.

Windhorst menilai James memiliki keterbukaan untuk penyesuaian nilai kontrak, namun ia mengingatkan konsekuensi jika klub memaksanya pergi dari Los Angeles.

"I think LeBron would be open to that. But the concept that he’s not as good anymore – you’re not getting that from LeBron James. I’ll tell you another thing: if you’re the Lakers, if you force LeBron to leave, he’ll go somewhere else and play for less money," ungkap Windhorst.

Berdasarkan laporan reporter ESPN Dave McMenamin, sejumlah tim seperti Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, dan New York Knicks kini muncul sebagai kandidat utama yang berminat menampung James jika ia memutuskan hengkang.
