Timnas Wales Menjamu Ghana dalam Laga Uji Coba di Cardiff

Tim nasional Wales menjamu Ghana dalam pertandingan uji coba internasional di Stadion Cardiff City pada Selasa, 2 Juni 2026, pukul 19.45 waktu setempat.

Pertandingan ini menjadi momen bagi manajer Wales, Craig Bellamy, untuk memperbaiki rekor buruk timnya sepanjang bulan Juni sekaligus mempersiapkan diri menghadapi UEFA Nations League.

Wales gagal melaju ke Piala Dunia 2026 setelah kalah dalam babak adu penalti melawan Bosnia-Herzegovina pada Maret lalu, sementara Ghana menggunakan laga ini sebagai persiapan menuju turnamen tersebut.

Manajer Wales, Craig Bellamy, menegaskan bahwa timnya harus segera membenahi performa mereka di bulan Juni demi menjadi negara yang disegani dalam sepak bola.

"When I look at our record in June, June friendlies or June competitive games, it’s nowhere near good enough," ujar Craig Bellamy, Manajer Wales.

Bellamy menambahkan bahwa atmosfer di dalam internal tim dan hubungannya dengan pihak asosiasi berjalan sangat terbuka serta transparan.

"I miss the every day." kata Craig Bellamy, Manajer Wales.

Bellamy menjelaskan lebih lanjut mengenai kerinduannya terhadap rutinitas harian di luar jeda internasional.

"I miss not being able to do this every single day, of course. But I knew what I was coming into as well." tutur Craig Bellamy, Manajer Wales.

Ia juga menegaskan pentingnya keterbukaan dengan manajemen asosiasi dalam setiap pengambilan keputusan.

"The relationship I have with Noel [Mooney] is really, really strong. We speak every day, so we never hide anything as well. I'm completely open and honest with him." ucap Craig Bellamy, Manajer Wales.

Bellamy berkomitmen untuk terus menjaga komunikasi yang transparan demi mencapai kesuksesan bersama tim.

"He knows exactly how I feel. Any interest he knows exactly first-hand. Any conversations he knows exactly first-hand as well." kata Craig Bellamy, Manajer Wales.

Ia menekankan bahwa kondisi di Wales saat ini sudah mendukung visi jangka panjangnya.

"We don't hide anything from each other. To me the most important is when that day does come, is it a situation that's gonna allow me to become successful? It's got to have everything in place to allow me to be that and at this present time I have that here." ujar Craig Bellamy, Manajer Wales.

Bellamy juga menilai tantangan melawan Ghana yang dilatih oleh Carlos Queiroz akan menguji adaptabilitas taktik pasukannya secara cepat.

"They’re a team from a different continent and a team that have already qualified for the World Cup." kata Craig Bellamy, Manajer Wales.

Menurutnya, staf pelatih Wales sudah memahami karakteristik kepelatihan Queiroz dari rekam jejak kariernya.

"We’ve got a reasonably good idea on the history of how Carlos [Queiroz] has managed and the teams he’s already had." ucap Craig Bellamy, Manajer Wales.

Bellamy memprediksi pertandingan akan berjalan dinamis karena adanya potensi perubahan formasi dari tim lawan.

"He might be completely different because Ghana were playing a completely different way to how he sets a team up, or he might go back to that, so we'll find out tomorrow." tutur Craig Bellamy, Manajer Wales.

Ia meyakini para pemain Wales memiliki kapasitas untuk menemukan solusi taktis di atas lapangan dengan cepat.

"I quite like that because we will have to adapt. There is no shape he’s going to be able to play that we haven't played against, so we definitely have the solutions." kata Craig Bellamy, Manajer Wales.

Penerapan strategi tersebut diharapkan bisa langsung berjalan sejak menit-menit awal pertandingan dimulai.

"How quick we can move into those solutions is good. We can't waste half a game trying to work something out. It’s literally a minute, two minutes." ujar Craig Bellamy, Manajer Wales.

Laga uji coba ini dipandang sebagai ujian yang sangat baik sebelum Wales bertolak menghadapi Rumania.

"It’s going to test us, and the same in Romania as well with a new manager. It’s good as it allows us to be very adaptable. For us, it’s about a lot of what we do and that never changes." kata Craig Bellamy, Manajer Wales.

Kekecewaan akibat kegagalan lolos ke Piala Dunia juga dirasakan oleh para pemain Wales yang kini mengalihkan fokus ke Piala Eropa 2028.

"We know what the fans are feeling because we are feeling the exactly the same, all the emotions of not going to America." kata Neco Williams, Pemain Wales.

Williams meyakini bahwa Wales sebenarnya memiliki potensi besar jika berhasil menembus putaran final Piala Dunia.

"I think the most disappointing thing about not getting to the tournament is I feel if we had got there, we would have given it a real go. We would have had a good chance of going far." tutur Neco Williams, Pemain Wales.

Ia meminta para suporter untuk tetap memberikan dukungan penuh kepada seluruh elemen tim nasional.

"But this is the reality – the fans have got to stick with us, believe in us as players and the manager and the good times will come." ujar Neco Williams, Pemain Wales.

Pertandingan melawan tim asal Afrika ini mengingatkan publik pada memori kelam tahun 1998 saat Wales menderita kekalahan telak 0-4 dari Tunisia di bawah asuhan Bobby Gould.

"I regret that the match turned out easier than we expected. The Welsh should have provided a good rehearsal for facing England, but they were far worse than we had hoped" kata Henryk Kasperczac, Manajer Tunisia saat itu.

Kekalahan tersebut diwarnai ketegangan di ruang ganti antara para pemain senior dan tim pelatih mengenai standar permainan tim.

"Speedo was totally right. It was about standards. Words were exchanged between senior pros and Gould. Sat there as a young lad I was shocked and embarrassed at it all. Gould was good with me but he lacked the correct manner to get the best out of big players. He wanted the Wimbledon siege mentality but he had some of the best Welsh players of their generation. He named set pieces after Wimbledon players and asked Speed and Saunders if they could do what Laurie Sanchez or Vinnie Jones could" kata Simon Howarth, Mantan Penyerang Wales.

Situasi bertambah jenaka sekaligus getir ketika penyerang John Hartson melontarkan pertanyaan di tengah cuaca panas Tunis.

"Yeah boss… why did you take me off?" tanya John Hartson, Mantan Penyerang Wales.

Di sisi lawan, Ghana datang ke Cardiff membawa deretan pemain berpengalaman seperti Antoine Semenyo, Kamaldeen Sulemana, dan Inaki Williams di bawah komando pelatih baru Carlos Queiroz.
