Cuaca Buruk Tunda Laga Meksiko Melawan Ekuador di Piala Dunia 2026

Pertandingan babak 32 besar Piala Dunia 2026 antara Meksiko dan Ekuador di Stadion Azteca, Kota Meksiko, pada Selasa, 30 Juni 2026 malam waktu setempat, resmi ditunda akibat cuaca buruk. Badai petir dan hujan deras yang melanda area stadion memaksa panitia menghentikan sesi pemanasan pemain demi keselamatan.

Dilansir dari usatoday.com, pengumuman penundaan dilakukan sekitar satu jam sebelum jadwal kick-off yang semula direncanakan pada pukul 21.00 ET. Kebijakan FIFA menetapkan penundaan wajib selama 30 menit jika terjadi sambaran petir dalam radius delapan hingga sepuluh mil dari stadion, dengan tambahan waktu setengah jam untuk setiap sambaran berikutnya.

Sebelum masalah cuaca melanda, atmosfer pertandingan sudah memanas akibat protes dari Federasi Sepak Bola Ekuador terkait tindakan suporter tuan rumah. Sekelompok pendukung Meksiko dilaporkan membuat kegaduhan luar biasa di luar hotel tempat tim Ekuador menginap untuk mengganggu waktu istirahat para pemain jelang laga penentuan ini.

Di kubu tuan rumah, pelatih Javier Aguirre berharap kehadiran puluhan ribu pendukung fanatik di Stadion Azteca mampu menjadi suntikan motivasi tambahan bagi anak asuhnya untuk mengamankan tiket ke babak 16 besar.

"Our home crowd is our 12th man," kata Javier Aguirre kepada wartawan pada hari Senin seperti dilansir dari espn.com.

"I don't mean to say that we don't have support elsewhere, but we are aware that we have a whole country behind us, and that motivates us a lot. I would say that we are all excited about what's to come." lanjut Javier Aguirre.

Javier Aguirre juga merefleksikan pengalamannya dari dua eliminasi Piala Dunia sebelumnya pada tahun 2002 dan 2010 untuk mematangkan persiapan timnya saat ini.

"I learnt a lot from those two games. They were difficult moments on a personal level. I made mistakes and I’m sure I will continue to do so, but the circumstances are different now. Our home turf, more than ever, can be our 12th man." ujar Javier Aguirre kepada nytimes.com.

Gelandang muda Meksiko asal klub Atlético Madrid, Obed Vargas, menyatakan kesiapan timnya untuk menghadapi permainan dinamis Ekuador yang dikenal kuat dan cepat.

"We expect a really dynamic, focused team. They are very quick and very strong. It’s going to be a tough game but at home, in front of our people, we hope to come out on top." tutur Obed Vargas kepada nytimes.com.

Obed Vargas juga menegaskan bahwa keberhasilan menyapu bersih fase grup tanpa kebobolan kini sudah menjadi masa lalu yang harus ditinggalkan demi fokus ke fase gugur.

"We expect a very dynamic Ecuador side; they've shown they are fast and strong, but we aim to keep defending well," kata Obed Vargas kepada espn.com.

Obed Vargas menambahkan mengenai pentingnya pola pikir siap tempur karena kekalahan di fase ini berarti kepulangan bagi tim nasional mereka.
